Film production in Portugal

We work as film fixers in Portugal, with the crew, the permits and the locations.

When a production from abroad films in Portugal, we handle the local side in English: locations, permits, crew, equipment and the logistics of the shoot days.

This is what we handle for a production from abroad.

Locations

We find and confirm the locations for your brief, with photographs and notes on access and permits.

Permits

We apply for what each location needs, from the city council, the park authority or the private owner, before the shoot.

Crew and equipment

Our own team and equipment, plus the extra crew and rentals your shoot needs in Portugal, briefed in English.

Logistics

Transport, accommodation and the plan for each shoot day.

The whole production

If you prefer, we take on the whole project, from the script to the edit, and you receive the finished film.

Before we start

What do you need to send a fixer in Portugal before the shoot?

The dates and how much they can move, the script or the treatment, the kind of locations you have in mind, and the crew and equipment travelling with you.

Tell us as well if you need drone shots, so the authorisations can be requested in time. And if the project may qualify for Portugal's film incentive, say so in the brief: the application has to be planned before any money is spent in Portugal.

Each region of Portugal asks for something different.

Lisbon, Sintra and Cascais

In Lisbon, the permit depends on the size of the crew and how much of the street the shoot takes. In Sintra, the palaces and the park are run by Parques de Sintra, which gives its own authorisation, and Cascais has its own municipal permit.

Porto and the North

The Ribeira, the Douro and the port cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia. In the historic centre, larger shoots need a municipal permit.

The Algarve

Each municipality issues its own filming permit, so a route through several towns means several applications. Beaches can also involve the maritime authority, and the Costa Vicentina is a natural park.

Madeira and the Azores

Protected natural areas need the authorisation of the regional authorities on top of any municipal permit, and equipment travels by air or sea. For eligible productions, Portugal's film incentive pays a higher rate in both.

Drone

We have our own drone and licence. Near airports, palaces and protected areas the rules are stricter, and we ask for the authorisations before the shoot.

These are the questions productions ask us about fixing in Portugal.

A film fixer is the local partner of a production that films in another country. The fixer handles what the team from abroad cannot do from a distance: locations, permits, local crew, equipment, logistics and the problems of the day.

It depends on how many days, locations and people the production needs, and on whether you want only the local side or the whole production. We quote each project after the brief, and the quote is fixed before you decide.

Yes. Our own team films, and for larger shoots we bring in the extra crew the project needs, from camera to sound, briefed in English. The size of the crew is set out in the proposal.

Yes. We apply for the permits each location needs, for public spaces, heritage sites or private properties, and tell you at the brief how much time each one takes.

Yes, for productions that qualify. Since 2026 the incentive runs through RIPAC, inside the SCRI.PT programme, managed by the ICA: 30% of eligible spend in Portugal, and 40% for medium-budget productions in low-density territories and the islands, for feature films, series, documentaries and animation. Commercials and corporate films do not qualify. We check whether your project fits and help with the Portuguese side of the application.

The whole country. We have filmed in Porto, Lisbon, Montijo, Setúbal, Arrábida, Sesimbra and the Algarve, and abroad in Madrid and Paris.

Yes. We are a production company, so we can take the brief, write the script, film and edit, and deliver the finished film.

Because the problems of a shoot day are solved on the spot: a location that changes, a street that is closed, a permit that needs a phone call in Portuguese. A remote coordinator can build the schedule, but someone has to be there when it changes.
